Located in front of the Glendinning Mansion which houses the headquarters of the Utah Division of Arts and Museums in Salt Lake City Utah, AMH:1898 references Alice Merrill Horne, who won a seat in the Third Utah Legislature long before women could even vote. Her goal was to advance the arts agenda in Utah, and she passed a bill in 1899 that made Utah the first state in the Union to provide a state institution for the encouragement of the fine arts. This sculpture honors her with a 12-foot tall sego lily bud (the state flower) made of corten (weathering steel) and 23K gold. Part of the text of her bill is cast into the base surrounding the sculpture.
